Are You Serious, Now?
Always Be Skeptical
Does anyone actually believe the journalists and politicians when they say Swalwell’s behavior was the “worst kept secret in Washington”? No, it turns out it wasn’t.
Clue...a secret that everyone knows is not a secret. It was a decision to not speak up or report it because he was useful, for a time. It was a partisan protection racket, because he said all the right things that progressives love to hear.
To be clear, the right runs the same racket. Kevin McCarthy was noted that every member of Congress knew to keep young staffers away from both Swalwell and Matt Gaetz. Gaetz was protected by Republican leadership for years for exactly the same reasons. Useful, until he wasn't.
Podcaster Katie Miller said the DC press and national media knew about Swalwell’s behavior since at least 2013. That’s more than a decade of protection. Reporter Bethany Allen posted that she knew in 2020 but didn’t report it because, she claims, it wasn’t her beat. So, she told someone on the Hill. Cue the crickets.
So why now? The coverage did not break because journalists found their conscience. It broke because Swalwell was the front runner for California governor, and with all of this baggage the political liabilities were growing exponentially.
No one was surprised?
This is the partisan media mafia protection racket. Swalwell said everything the right people wanted to hear. He was useful. He was given a platform, a seat on the Intelligence Committee, a presidential campaign, and a gubernatorial run. Silence.
The comparison to Kavanaugh, and to my own case, is worth mentioning. During his confirmation hearings, unsubstantiated allegations dominated the front pages of every major newspaper for weeks. There was no waiting for corroboration, no threshold for evidence. Wall-to-wall coverage of claims that multiple witnesses said they could not corroborate. The coverage was not proportionate to the evidence.
In my case, though on a smaller scale, the media ran with stories based on nothing but a few things people said. No evidence existed that I was a violent offender or dangerous predator. I was good for the headlines.
With Swalwell, sourced allegations with named accusers sat dormant for a decade. What the fuck! Are we to take all of them seriously now?
I’m on the side of due process, because all this media coverage now creates noise that will provide protection for the people who were either covering for him, or waiting to destroy him. At least, in a courtroom, he would have a chance to answer the charges, particularly the more serious allegations of rape. There would be evidence, or not. And the women who knew but said nothing would have a chance to answer those questions.
None of that is a coincidence. All of it is a pattern. Be skeptical of everything.
